Sentence Ordering Dictation

Type: Word order activity
Level: Beginners & Intermediate Students

Teacher's notes: This activity helps you to revise/review correct sentence structures with students.

  1. Demonstrate the activity by saying a jumbled up sentence. (e.g.: went yesterday home I.)
  2. Write it on the board and then with the students' help rewrite it correctly.
  3. Dictate the jumbled up sentences to the students.
  4. The students should write down the incorrect sentences and then they should order them correctly.
  5. The students can work in pairs when ordering the sentences.

A variation: Add the students' names to the dictation based on what you know of them (e.g. Juan football play likes to; Mickey like doesn't chocolate; Hema gets up never at 6 am.)
