Syllabus for beginner courses

This is a good start for beginner courses without a book



Lesson One


New Language:

Where are you from?
Nice to meet you.
What's your job?
What do you do?

Present simple verbs:

I live in ... .
I work in ... .
I like movies (noun)
I am nineteen years old

Show the students how
to record vocabulary

Start a vocabulary book

Lesson Two


Review:

Review the questions
from yesterday
Hello my name is... .
I'm a... .

New Language:

Possessive pronouns:
Her name is... .
His name is... .

Third person 's'
He is a... .
He lives in Japan
(highlight the preposition
in)

Begin to go over the first five letters of the alphabet by writing a letter on the board and asking students to say a word which begins with that letter.

Teach:

How do you spell?



Lesson Three


Alphabet review:

Add some more letters to the previous list

How do you spell with objects around the class and students' names

Check possessive pronouns:

Her name is... .
What is his name?
What's his first name?
What her last name?

New Language:

Short questions:
Do you work in New York?
Does he work in Japan?
Yes/No do/doesn't
Are you married?
Are you from Brazil?

Lesson Four


Review:

The short answer questions

New Language:

What is this?
What is that?
What are these/those?
Who is it?

Where is it?
Here, there and over there

Whose are these?
Mine, his, hers, theirs, ours

Lesson Five


Review:

Review the questions
from lesson four

New Language:

Telling the time

Firstly review numbers
up to twenty

Add daily routine verbs.
Highlight the preposition at

Teach:

I get up at... .
I go to bed at... .
I go to work at... .

Ask the students to complete a questionnaire
( i.e. asking about daily routines)

Review of how do you spell?

Also teach:

I don't understand

Lesson Six


Review

Review of telling the time
Review of verbs(every day)

Extra questions:

What do you do?
Do you work in Manhattan?
Where do you work?
When do you get up?
When do you go to work?

New Language

Feelings:
Tired
Hungry
Angry
Sleepy
Thirsty

Put these words into sentences for the students:

I am tired, I feel tired.

Teach:

like/don't like

Lesson Seven


Questions review via questionnaires:

Third person singular:
What time does John get up?
What time does John go to bed?

With negative:
No, he doesn't.
Yes he does.

New Language:

Adverbs of frequency:
Sometimes
Always
Never
Usually

Question:
How are you?
I'm tired etc.

Go over the verbs from the first lesson via spelling:
mime and then students spell the word

New Language:

Family vocabulary using family photos

This is my wife, she works in Manhattan she likes movies and Robert Redford.



Lesson Eight


Review family vocabulary

New Language

Review jobs and then add verbs related to the jobs.

For example:
Teacher
Actor
Worker
Doctor etc.

Ask the question:

What does an actor do?
He acts in movies.
Does he make cakes?
No, he doesn't

Review question:

How often do you:
Go to the movies?
Play football?

Review adverbs:

sometimes, always, never

Lesson Nine

Countable and non-countable nouns, food vocabulary

Sugar, milk, flour, butter
eggs, sandwiches etc.
