Which letter?


Activity type: a word puzzle in which students have to rearrange the first letter of each word to spell a word correctly.


Level: Beginner


Teacher's notes:

  1. Write these two words on the board:

    Futter and blour
  2. Tell the students that the words are spelt incorrectly; see if they can guess how.
  3. The answer should be that the first letters have been switched i.e. butter and flour.
  4. Put the students into pairs and hand out a copy of the list below.

  5. Tell the students to find the correct first letters to the words as quickly as they can.

  6. Tell them to rewrite the words.

  7. By doing this, the students will remember the words and also work on their spelling.

  8. Note that the entire list is connected to pieces of furniture and housing.

  9. Make sure that you make this a game!
