Activity type: this is a speaking activity which involves students talking about their own cultures.


Level: Pre-intermediate and above


Teacher's notes:

1. Begin the activity by telling the students a little about your own culture. You might want to talk about how your country is perceived by other countries and then explain the reality! You may want to show the students a calendar and also explain various national holidays which will help to convey history and the culture of your country. If you have photos, show them.
   
2. Ask the students to pair up and to write some questions that they would like to ask you about your country. Each pair could write about three questions.
   
3. Once they have done this, hold a question and answer session.
   
4. After this, hand out the questionnaire below. Ask the students to complete it in pairs, i.e. they can ask and answer one another.
   
5. Open this into a group discussion, find out how each pair answered and further prompt the students by asking them more questions etc.
