Too Many Words





Type of activity: This is an error correction activity in which students have to identify the unnecessary word.
Level: All levels (The level will depend on the type of text which is used)



Teacher's notes:

  1. Write a sentence on the board such as the one below:
    My father lives in a so very big house.

  2. Ask the students to identify the word, as a group, which is not needed.
    (Of course they should recognize ‘so’).
  3. Hand out the worksheet below and ask the students to identify the unnecessary word which is in each line. This is very much based on the Cambridge exams which contain this additional word activity.


NOTE: You can do this with any text e.g. re-write one from your course book or re-write an authentic piece of material.
