Games: quick ideas - old favorites.

Stop the bus:

  1. Draw a grid with three/four boxes on the board.
  2. In each box write one category and split the group of students into three teams.
  3. Write a letter on the board.
  4. The teams have to think of a word for each category which begins with that letter.
  5. As soon as they have 3 or 4 words they should shout "stop the bus!" run to the board and write the words in each box.
  6. Categories could include: vegetables, countries, objects in a home etc.

Backs to the board:

  1. Put two seats in front of the board and split the class into two teams.
  2. Ask two students to sit in each chair and then write a word on the board.
  3. The students sat in the chairs have their backs to the boards therefore they cannot see the word.
  4. The teams have to get the students in the chairs to say the word by giving the students in the chairs definitions.

Mime game:

  1. Give each student one of the problems below.
  2. Tell them that they are in a hotel but the receptionist doesn't speak their language and so they have to mime.
