Activity type: this is a word scramble game in which teams try to make a word containing as many letters as possible.
Level: Intermediate and above
Teacher's notes:
- Begin this game by writing ten letters on the board. Choose the letters at random. Make sure that you have vowels and consonants in the mix.
- If you would like the students to help you, ask them to shout out either consonant or vowel. Write either a consonant or a vowel on the board accordingly.
- Then put the students into groups and tell them to try to spell a word using the letters on the board.
- Allow the students a few minutes to work in pairs and then go around the class asking each pair to tell you the word that they have.
- Make sure that you ask the students how many letters are in the words. Score a point for the pair with the word which contains the most letters.
- Repeat this but this time put the class into teams of four.
- Allow each team to have paper and pens so that they can note down words.
- Explain that you will ask each team to ask for either a vowel or a consonant and you will decide the actual letter. Remember allow ten letters.
- Score a point for the team with the word with the most letters.
