Activity type: this is a kinesthetic activity in which students move a ball/balloon around the room
Level: Beginner and above
Teacher's notes:
- Begin by standing in front of the class and placing a ball in various places around the room. As you are doing this say where the ball/balloon is.
For example:
- The ball is above my head.
- The ball is under the table.
- The ball is in between the table and the board.
- The ball is on the chair.
- The ball is beside the chair.
- The ball is next to the door.
- The ball is behind Juan (A student).
- Ask the students to repeat the sentences after you.
- After a while, place the ball around the room but do not say where it is; ask the students to shout out where it is.
- Make sure that they say full sentences. Correct as and when you need to.
- After doing this for some time, hand the ball to a student and ask him/her to move the ball around the room.
- Once they have done this a few times, ask the student to give the ball to another student and repeat the same procedure. Do this until all of the students have had a go.
- At the end review the prepositions.
Note: this is fun for younger learners. You may want to follow this up with ‘Hide things around the room’ a game about finding things. It is under games.
