Activity type: this is a reinforcement activity in which students have to recognize the different ends of regular past tense verbs
Level: Elementary and above
Teacher's notes:
- Ask the students to think about the endings of the regular past tense verbs.
Say:
- Walked /t/
- Wanted /id/
- Moved /d/
- Repeat the verbs enough times for the students to hear the different endings; ask the students what they are i.e. /t/ /id/ and /d/.
- Then tell the students to write these phonemes in their books and draw three columns around them.
- Tell the students that you are going to say various verbs with the ‘ed’ ending; they have to write the verbs in the correct column according to the sound of the ending.
- Say the verbs, repeating the verbs as many times as the students need.
- Once you have done this, ask the students to check their work in pairs and then go over the answers.
