Activity type: this is a differentiation activity in which students have to decide which word contains which sound
Level: Elementary and above
Teacher's notes:
- Write theses phonemes on the board /ei/ /ai/ /u:/ and /i:/ Ask the students to tell you which sounds they are; ask them to make the sounds and to think of words which contain those sounds.
- Once you have established what the sounds are, explain that you are going to dictate words to them containing those sounds. The students have to note the words under the correct column i.e. the correct phoneme.
- Then dictate the following words to the students. Ask them to decide which column the words belong to in pairs.
- Once you have done, give the students time to look over their lists and then give over the correct answers.
- Note that you can use any phonemes which the students have particular problems with.
