Developing fluency
Level: Pre-intermediate and above
Time: 40 minutes
Teacher's notes:
- Give each student s a piece of paper and ask them to write one polemical statement on the paper e.g. Women will rule the world very soon.
- It doesn't have to be a statement that the students believe, simply something which will generate a conversation/a reaction in the other students.
- Tell the students not to write their names on the pieces of paper, they should remain anonymous.
- Put the students into groups of three.
- Collect in each strip.
- Tell the students that you are now going to read out each strip one at a time.
- Once you have read out a statement, ask the students to discuss it.
- Let the discussion run its course and then go over a few of the discussion points.
- Move onto the next statement.
- At the end go over the students' errors and correct.
