Activity type: this is a speaking activity in which students have to speak to one another to find out if statements are true or not.
Level: Elementary/Pre-intermediate and above (will depend on the level of the language used in the questionnaire).
Teacher's notes:
- Printout the worksheet below and photocopy enough for each student in class.
- In class, explain that the students have to prove or disprove the statements on the photocopy by asking everyone in class questions.
- Read out the statements to the students. Clarify any misunderstandings or unknown vocabulary e.g. to hang out.
- Hand out a worksheet to each student and then elicit what the question would be for the first statement i.e. do you like chocolate? This is to check that the students know the correct question forms.
- Explain that they are going to ask each student to find out the truth about the class.
- Ask the students to mingle, asking and answering the questions.
- Allow them enough time to talk to everyone. When they have done this, tell the students to sit down and to check their information with their partners.
- At the end, go over the answers and any corrections that you feel need work on.
- Find out whether the statements are true or false.
Note you can practice grammar or vocabulary by doing this activity i.e. make all of the questions contain the grammar structure or the vocabulary that you would like the students to work on. Note the worksheet below deals with the simple past.
