What do I know about my group?

Activity type: this activity develops the rapport of a group and develops fluency.

Level: Intermediate and above

Teacher's notes:

  1. Before class, write the name of each student on a strip of paper. You should have ten strips, if you have ten students for example.
  2. When in class, hand out one strip of paper to each student making sure that they do not get their own names.
  3. Ask the students to look at the name on the papers and to write things that they know about that person.
  4. Give the students a few minutes to write. Monitor and correct the writing, if you wish.
  5. Once the students have finished, collect in the strips of paper.
  6. Tell the students that you are going to read out each strip and that they have to guess who the person is that you are reading out about.
  7. The students should have fun guessing and the students will find out what is really known about them.
  8. Once you have read out each strip, give the papers back but this time to the students whose name is on the paper. Put the students into pairs and ask them to discuss a little more about the information on the strip. Monitor and correct as they are doing this.
  9. Allow a few minutes for this; ask each pair to report back to the group about the additional information that they found out about their partners.
